About the Speaker

"I’m from a small town in the South West of Scotland, by the sea. There was a lot of open space when I was growing up. Ayr is Robert Burns country so I learned how to speak Scots from a young age."

About Ayrshire

Ayrshire is located on the south east coast of Scotland, to the south of Glasgow, on the shores of the Firth of Clyde. Its principal towns include Ayr, Kilmarnock and Irvine. It is the location of the Glasgow Prestwick International Airport, which serves Glasgow, and is where Elvis Presley famously made his only touch-down in the UK.

The rugged Galloway Hills run through it, and though it is one of the most agriculturally fertile areas of Scotland, it was also heavily industrialised with steel making and coal mining. It is the home of Robert Burns and Johnnie Walker whisky.
